Family & Community Services is a New South Wales, Australian Government Department responsible for the continuing safety and protection of children. The department are understaffed and hard stretched, whilst using antiquated systems and software. The challenge assigned was to observe and learn from staff members visiting families and children to find out their requirements and expectations of their critical software, and to streamline their current processes. I used UX principles and workshops to identify major pain points and quick wins to improve their situation.

SMSMT and I identified many key areas where applications would free uptime for the hard working staff. This was a great opportunity to rapidly test the usefulness of concepts through paper prototyping first.

The end result being the large and small improvements will save lives and ultimately get children out of danger quicker.
